Image effects

When the Image effects dialog opens it contains the image that is currently selected in the image list (Step 1).

Image effects dialog

In the left upper corner of this window there is a preview area where you can see exactly how each effect works. Using this dialog you can add effects both to the original image and the thumbnail image or only to the thumbnail image. Use the Apply the selected effects to option group to select where to apply image effects.

You can also make all images in the current project have the same effects. Just check the Apply current effects to all images in the project option before clicking the OK button.

The following effects are available:

  • Emboss - makes a thumbnail appear raised or stamped by converting its fill color to gray and tracing the edges with the original fill color.

  • Gray scale - makes thumbnail appear in black and white.

  • Invert - inverts every color in the thumbnail.

  • Brightness - adjusts thumbnail brightness. Minimum value: -255, maximum value: 255, default value: 0.

  • Contrast - adjusts thumbnail contrast. Minimum value: -255, maximum value: 255, default value: 0.

  • Antialias - blends the edge pixels of a contour or gloss contour. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 50, default value: 0.

  • Gaussian blur - blurs a thumbnail by an adjustable amount. The Gaussian Blur effect adds low-frequency detail and can produce a hazy effect. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 10, default value: 0.

  • Split blur - "splits" a thumbnail. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 20, default value: 0.

  • Color noise - applies random pixels to a thumbnail, simulating the effect of shooting pictures on high-speed film. This effect can also be used to reduce banding or to give a more realistic look to heavily retouched areas. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 500, default value: 0.

  • Mono noise - applies random gray scaled pixels to a thumbnail. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 500, default value: 0.

  • Lightness - adjusts thumbnail lightness. Minimum value: -255, maximum value: 255, default value: 0.

  • Darkness - adjusts thumbnail darkness. Minimum value: -255, maximum value: 255, default value: 0.

  • Mosaic - clumps pixels into square blocks. Minimum value: 0, maximum value: 50, default value: 0.

  • Saturation - adjusts thumbnail saturation. Minimum value: -255, maximum value: 255, default value: 0.

The Remove all effects button removes all applied image effects and sets all effects to default values.
